Walvis Bay, Namibia – Wednesday, 20 May 2026 – At Erongo RED, powering communities goes beyond supplying electricity; it also means empowering customers with the knowledge to use electricity safely and responsibly. In April 2026, Erongo RED launched an electricity-saving campaign aimed at raising awareness about the importance of using electricity wisely. The campaign was developed not only to help customers better manage their monthly expenses, but also to promote a culture of responsible and sustainable energy use.
Building on this initiative, Erongo RED has now launched the electricity safety campaign to educate customers on the safe use of electricity. While electricity is essential to everyday life, it must be used responsibly to prevent accidents in homes and communities alike.
Customers are encouraged to avoid overloading plugs and sockets, as this can lead to electrical faults and potential fire hazards. The use of high-quality chargers and electrical appliances is equally important, while electrical cords should always be kept away from heat and hot surfaces.
Parents and guardians are urged to ensure that children do not insert fingers or objects into sockets, as this can lead to fatal incidents or serious injuries. Faulty wiring, exposed cables,or sparks should be reported immediately, as these may pose a danger to people and properties. Members of the public are further reminded to always keep a safe distance from electrical power lines.
Copper cable theft also remains a serious safety concern and should be reported without delay. By using electricity responsibly and remaining alert to potential electrical hazards, communities can help prevent accidents, protect lives, and safeguard property.
Electrical faults, exposed cables, sparks, or cable theft should be reported to Erongo RED at +264 (0)64 201 9680 or 96 000 (toll-free), or via email at support@erongored.com.na.
